The Volkran’dir, or the ‘Ashes Above’, inhabit the Vahalzaar Badlands around the base of the Burnt Peaks. They are masters in the art of Volkraft, the repurposing of junk into useful tools, weapons, and infrastructure.
Unlike their subterranean brethren, the Volkran’dir endeavor to engage in trade with the other races of Aesor; their males are often hired out to foreign powers as laborers on account of their brute strength, and mining rights are traded to other nations in exchange for weapons and rare materials. The latter is considered a grave insult by the Volkran’dur, who believe the mountains of the region to be sacred. This contention often leads to bloodshed between kin.
Volkran’dir society is made up of independent city-states, each with its own clan leader. The clans are only loosely united by a central Krafter Chief, a life-long position that can only be held by one who has never been a clan leader themselves.
