The core principle of the expertise system is to reward long term usage of a certain type of weapon, spell, skill, or armor. It's a classless system that considers a player's dedication to a gameplay style, granting the character meaningful combat actions and traits.
The Expertise System grants players Mastery Points to unlock perks within a Expertise Tree. Each Expertise Tree receives experience individually from the others through a uniquely designated gameplay event that grants experience to that tree when completed.
Expertise experience can be gained through usage, training, or fulfilling certain in-game conditions.
When a character uses an action or succeeds in a skill check they will receive expertise experience. The action or skill checks proficiency helps associate the event to the correct expertise tree.
Once enough experience is accumulated, a player will level up their mastery level in a expertise tree granting mastery points to be spent. The expertise trees themselves have a built in progression system in how the nodes are connected. A player must begin at the first node in a tree and work their way deeper through the node connections, unlocking more perks.
